i feel like you guys are putting too much weight on the fact that it’s film. @burrell, i typically love your stuff, but this is way too heavy on the left and bare on the right for me. i get that you were trying to place the skater nicely in the square, but it’s just too lopsided for me. i mean, there’s NOTHING in the right 2/3 of the photo. the exposure and light are nice thought.
Cheers!
Andy, I hear you about the balance issue. I wouldn’t say there’s absolutely nothing to the right of the frame though… I tried to balance the buildings in the top left with those in the bottom right, although couldn’t get it spot on without a light creeping into the shot. I dunno, it was just one of those angles that felt right when I was shooting it. I mean it can always be better but I don’t feel that it’s super unbalanced. Thanks for the crit though.
empty on the right? no way. i see a light post, and brick ground. if i look more, tree leaves, buildings in the distance. tells you so much, it aint ny, our light posts dont look like that. it looks like spring or summer, not winter or fall. it’s not a schoolyard in california.
seeing more bank could be ok, but the lighting and comp are looking legit.
if it were vertical, it might be too tight on the sides. horizontal, it might be suffocating on the head and arms.
